  • IEEE 802.3bt (PoE++): The latest standard includes two power levels: 
  • Type 3: Provides up to 60 watts of power (minimum 50V DC and 600mA) per device, suitable for high-power devices. 
  • Type 4: Provides up to 100 watts of power (minimum 50V DC and 960mA) per device, used for devices with significant power demands like high-performance wireless access points and video conferencing systems. 

Cable Types and Power Capacity :

The type of Ethernet cable used can impact its power delivery capacity: 

  • Cat5e: Supports up to 1000 Mbps data transfer and is sufficient for delivering power according to the PoE and PoE+ standards. 
  • Cat6: Supports up to 10 Gbps data transfer over shorter distances and provides improved performance for higher power delivery. 
  • Cat6a: Designed for higher frequencies and longer distances, Cat6a cables can deliver power more efficiently and are ideal for PoE++ applications. 

Can Ethernet Cables Cause Fire ?
